API Terms

Terms governing access to and use of Frontal's application programming interfaces and SDKs.

Last updated 2026幎6月11日

These API Terms ("API Terms") govern your access to and use of Frontal's application programming interfaces, software development kits, command-line tools, webhooks, and related documentation (collectively, the "APIs"). These API Terms are incorporated into and form part of the Frontal Terms of Service. Capitalized terms not defined here have the meanings given in the Terms of Service.

1. API ACCESS

1.1 Registration and Credentials. To access the APIs, you must have an active Account in good standing. API access requires authentication credentials ("API Keys") generated through your Account. API Keys are Confidential Information under the Terms of Service. You must not share, expose in client-side code, or embed API Keys in publicly accessible repositories.

1.2 API Key Security. You are responsible for all activity conducted using your API Keys. You must promptly rotate compromised keys and notify us at security@frontal.dev of any unauthorized use. We may rotate keys automatically upon detection of a security incident.

1.3 Access Levels. API access levels correspond to your subscription plan and Account configuration. We may limit API access based on your plan, usage patterns, or compliance with these API Terms.

2. API USAGE

2.1 Rate Limits. API usage is subject to rate limits published in our Documentation or communicated through API response headers. Rate limits apply per Account, per API Key, per endpoint, per IP address, or per model, as specified in the Documentation. Exceeding rate limits may result in throttling, queuing, or temporary suspension of API access. You must design your applications to handle rate limit responses gracefully, including implementing exponential backoff and retry logic for 429 (Too Many Requests) responses.

2.2 Usage Quotas. Your API usage may be subject to quotas (e.g., requests per minute, tokens per day, concurrent connections) determined by your subscription plan. Quotas are measured and enforced on a rolling window basis as described in the Documentation.

2.3 Fair Use. We may impose additional restrictions on API usage patterns that deviate materially from typical usage on your subscription tier, including excessive concurrent connections, abnormally large request payloads, or usage that degrades service for other customers. We will provide notice before imposing restrictions except where immediate action is required to protect the Services.

2.4 API Versioning. We may update the APIs from time to time, including releasing new versions. We will provide at least 90 days' notice before deprecating a major API version. During the deprecation period, the deprecated version will remain available but may not receive feature updates. After the deprecation period, the deprecated version will be decommissioned. Security patches and critical bug fixes may be applied without advance notice.

2.5 Changes. We reserve the right to modify the APIs, including endpoint URLs, request and response formats, parameters, and authentication mechanisms. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to maintain backward compatibility for non-breaking changes. Breaking changes will be communicated through our changelog, developer communications, and API response headers during a transition period.

3. API RESTRICTIONS

In addition to restrictions in the Acceptable Use Policy, you must not:

  • circumvent rate limits or usage quotas, including by creating multiple Accounts or using multiple API Keys;
  • use the APIs in a manner that constitutes excessive or abusive usage, as reasonably determined by us;
  • resell, sublicense, or distribute API access as a standalone service, except as expressly permitted under a separate written agreement;
  • use the APIs to replicate or replace substantial portions of the Services;
  • publish, distribute, or make available your API Keys to any third party;
  • use the APIs in a manner that violates the terms of service or acceptable use policies of any third-party model provider accessible through the APIs; or
  • exceed concurrent connection limits or implement polling patterns at intervals disruptive to service operations.

4. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY

4.1 API Ownership. The APIs, including their design, interfaces, protocols, libraries, SDKs, and Documentation, are the intellectual property of Frontal and its licensors. Except as expressly granted in these API Terms, no rights in the APIs are transferred to you.

4.2 SDK License. Subject to these API Terms and the Terms of Service, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use our SDKs and client libraries solely to integrate with and use the APIs in connection with the Services.

4.3 Applications. You retain ownership of any application, integration, or software you develop using the APIs ("API Client"), excluding any Frontal intellectual property incorporated therein. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license during the term of your API access to use, test, and monitor your API Client solely to enable, integrate, and support your use of the Services. This license does not authorize Frontal to use your API Client for product development, benchmarking, training of Frontal's models or services, or any purpose independent of providing the Services to you. This license terminates upon termination of your API access.

4.4 No Implied Rights. No rights in the APIs are granted by implication, estoppel, or otherwise, except as expressly set forth in these API Terms.

5. CUSTOMER DATA TRANSMITTED VIA API

5.1 Data Handling. Customer Data transmitted through the APIs is processed in accordance with the Terms of Service, our Data Processing Agreement, and Privacy Policy.

5.2 API Logs. We retain logs of API requests for purposes including security monitoring, abuse detection, performance analysis, and billing. API log retention periods are governed by our Data Retention Policy.

5.3 Monitoring. We may monitor API usage to ensure compliance with these API Terms, maintain service quality, detect security incidents, and enforce rate limits. Monitoring is conducted in accordance with our Privacy Policy.

6. API AVAILABILITY

6.1 Service Level. API availability is covered under the Service Level Agreement applicable to your subscription plan. Enterprise customers may have additional API-specific SLA commitments in an Order Form.

6.2 Maintenance. We may perform scheduled maintenance that temporarily affects API availability. We will use commercially reasonable efforts to provide advance notice of scheduled maintenance and to perform maintenance during low-usage periods.

6.3 Breaking Changes. A "Breaking Change" means a modification to the APIs that is not backward compatible, including removal of an endpoint, change to required parameters, change to authentication mechanism, or change to response format that would cause a previously functional API Client to fail. We categorize API changes as follows:

  • Non-Breaking Changes (additive): New endpoints, new optional parameters, new response fields, new API versions. These do not require notice.
  • Breaking Changes with Deprecation: Removal or backward-incompatible modification of existing functionality. These require at least 90 days' notice.
  • Emergency Changes: Changes required to address a security vulnerability, legal requirement, or critical operational issue. We will use reasonable efforts to provide advance notice, but may implement changes immediately when necessary.

7. LIABILITY

THE LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY IN THE TERMS OF SERVICE APPLY TO YOUR USE OF THE APIs. FRONTAL IS NOT LIABLE FOR DAMAGES ARISING FROM YOUR INABILITY TO ACCESS THE APIs, RATE LIMITING, THROTTLING, API CHANGES, DEPRECATIONS, OR YOUR FAILURE TO IMPLEMENT APPROPRIATE ERROR HANDLING AND RETRY LOGIC.

8. TERMINATION OF API ACCESS

We may suspend or terminate your API access for violation of these API Terms, the Acceptable Use Policy, or if your Account is suspended or terminated. Upon termination, all API Keys associated with your Account will be revoked, and you must cease all API usage.
