We believe the next generation of enterprise software will be fundamentally different from the software that came before it.
For decades, software has been built to follow instructions. It stores information, executes workflows, and exposes functionality through interfaces that people learn to operate.
That model has created an enormous amount of value.
But something has changed.
Software can now understand.
It can reason across information, interpret context, make decisions, use tools, and act on behalf of people and organizations.
The opportunity is no longer simply to add AI to existing software.
It is to build software differently from the ground up.
That is what we are building at Frontal.
From software that executes to software that understands
Enterprise software has traditionally been organized around applications.
A CRM manages customer relationships. An ERP manages resources. A ticketing system manages support. A data warehouse stores information. A workflow engine moves information between systems.
Each system is useful on its own.
But the enterprise does not operate as a collection of isolated applications.
A customer exists across the CRM, support system, billing platform, contracts, emails, documents, and internal conversations.
A financial decision may depend on operational data, customer history, contracts, forecasts, and policies.
A single business process can cross dozens of systems and involve hundreds of decisions.
People connect these pieces because they understand the context.
Software historically has not.
We think that is changing.
The next generation of enterprise software will be able to understand the organization it operates within, including its data, systems, processes, relationships, policies, history, and current state.
It will not simply tell people what happened.
It will help determine what should happen next.
The model is only one part
The rapid progress of foundation models has made a new class of software possible.
But a model alone does not create an enterprise system.
A model does not know which customer data it should access.
It does not inherently understand an organization’s permissions.
It does not know which actions it is authorized to take.
It does not provide evaluation, observability, identity, workflows, reliable execution, or governance.
Those capabilities have to exist around it.
This is why we believe the central infrastructure problem is bigger than model access.
The hard part is building the system that turns intelligence into something an organization can actually use.
That system needs to connect:
- Data that provides enterprise context.
- Ontology that gives that data meaning.
- Agents that can reason and act.
- Workflows that coordinate work.
- Runtime that reliably executes intelligent software.
- Security that defines what systems can access and do.
- Evaluation that measures whether systems work.
- Observability that makes their behavior understandable.
These are not independent pieces.
They form a system.
Introducing Frontal
Frontal is building that system.
Our platform gives enterprises the infrastructure to build, deploy, and operate intelligent software across their organization.
At the foundation is the runtime required to execute applications, agents, workflows, and AI workloads reliably.
Above that sits the intelligence layer: models, agents, context, and the systems that allow software to reason over enterprise information and interact with the world around it.
Data and ontology provide the foundation for understanding.
Workflows connect intelligence to business processes.
Security and access controls establish boundaries.
Evaluation, benchmarks, and observability provide the mechanisms to understand whether intelligent systems are actually working.
Together, these capabilities allow enterprises to move from isolated AI features toward software that can operate across the organization.
Intelligence needs context
An intelligent system without context is limited.
The most valuable context for an enterprise already exists inside the enterprise.
It lives in databases and documents. In applications and APIs. In business processes and policies. In relationships between customers, products, employees, suppliers, transactions, and events.
It also lives in institutional knowledge that has never been properly represented in software.
Frontal is designed around the idea that this context should become usable by software.
Not simply retrieved.
Understood.
The difference matters.
A system that can retrieve a document can answer a question about that document.

That is where enterprise intelligence begins.

Understanding is only useful if it can lead to action.
Enterprise software needs to do more than generate an answer.
It needs to be able to take the next step.
An intelligent system might identify a problem, investigate the relevant data, determine what should happen, initiate a workflow, update a system, notify the right person, and continue monitoring the outcome.
That requires more than an agent.
It requires infrastructure.
Frontal is designed to provide the layers required for intelligent software to move from understanding → decision → action.
And because these actions happen inside real organizations, they must happen within explicit boundaries.
Built for the real world
Enterprise environments are messy.
Data is incomplete.
Systems are fragmented.
Permissions are complicated.
Legacy infrastructure cannot simply be replaced.
Models fail.
Services go down.
Processes change.
People need to remain in control.
We are building Frontal for that reality.
Production is the standard.
That means intelligent systems need to be observable, evaluated, permissioned, auditable, and resilient.
Organizations should be able to understand what their systems are doing, determine what they are allowed to do, measure whether they are performing correctly, and intervene when necessary.
We do not see these as features added around intelligence.
They are part of intelligence infrastructure itself.
Intelligence should belong to the enterprise
We believe organizations should own the intelligence they build.
They should control their data.
They should control their systems.
They should define permissions and policies.
They should be able to understand how their intelligent software behaves.
And they should be able to evolve it as their organization changes.
AI should increase the capability of an enterprise without taking away its control.
That principle influences how we build Frontal, from our infrastructure and APIs to our approach to security, evaluation, interoperability, and open systems.
The platform should give organizations leverage, not lock them into a black box.

We don’t think the future of enterprise AI is thousands of disconnected copilots.
We think it is a new software layer across the organization.
A layer that understands what the enterprise knows.
A layer that understands how the enterprise operates.
A layer that can reason about what is happening and determine what should happen next.
And, within defined boundaries, a layer that can act.
Some of that intelligence will answer questions.
Some will make recommendations.
Some will automate workflows.
Some will operate continuously in the background.
Some will make decisions.
Together, they become something larger than a collection of AI features.
They become intelligent software.
Why we are building Frontal
The transition from traditional software to intelligent software will not happen overnight.
Models will change.
Interfaces will change.
Infrastructure will change.
The abstractions we use today will evolve.
But we believe the underlying transition is durable.
Software is becoming capable of understanding more of the world around it.
Organizations will increasingly expect their software to reason about their operations rather than simply record them.
And the infrastructure required to make that possible is still being built.
We started Frontal to build it.
Our goal is simple to state, even if it is difficult to achieve:
Make intelligence a native capability of enterprise software.
Give developers the infrastructure to build systems that understand, decide, and act.
Give enterprises the control to deploy those systems responsibly.
And build the foundations that can support them in production.
