Frontal Labs, Inc. ("Frontal," "we," "us," or "our") uses open source software in the development, operation, and delivery of our Services. This Open Source Notice describes our approach to open source software and your rights and obligations regarding open source components in the Services.

1. OPEN SOURCE IN THE SERVICES

The Frontal platform incorporates open source software components governed by open source licenses. These licenses grant you certain rights to use, modify, and redistribute the open source components, subject to the terms of the applicable license.

2. APPLICABLE LICENSES

Open source components used in the Services are subject to various open source licenses, including:

  • MIT License.
  • Apache License 2.0.
  • BSD 2-Clause and 3-Clause Licenses.
  • ISC License.
  • GNU General Public License (GPL) v2 and v3.
  • GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL) v2.1 and v3.
  • Mozilla Public License (MPL) 2.0.
  • Eclipse Public License (EPL) 2.0.
  • Python Software Foundation License.
  • PostgreSQL License.
  • Creative Commons licenses (for documentation and creative content).
  • Various other permissive and copyleft licenses.

2.1 Frontal's Own Open Source Code

Frontal publishes certain software under open source licenses at https://github.com/frontal-labs. This includes SDKs, CLI tools, and client libraries. Frontal's own public code is made available under the MIT License unless otherwise specified in the applicable repository. Frontal's MIT-licensed code is free for anyone to use, modify, and distribute under the terms of the MIT License.

2.2 Copyleft License Usage

Certain infrastructure components used server-side by Frontal are licensed under copyleft licenses (GPL, LGPL, MPL). These components are used exclusively in a server-side capacity through separate-process or network-communication architectures. No copyleft-licensed code is compiled, linked, or distributed as part of Frontal's proprietary application code, SDKs, or client libraries. Frontal's use of these components is consistent with the applicable license terms, and Frontal's proprietary code is not subject to copyleft obligations as a result.

3. SOURCE CODE AVAILABILITY

For components distributed under licenses requiring distribution of source code (such as the GPL, LGPL, and MPL), Frontal makes the corresponding source code available upon request. To request source code, contact us at legal@frontal.dev with the following information:

  • Your name and organization.
  • The specific component or version for which source code is requested.
  • The license requiring source code distribution.

We will provide the source code on a commonly used electronic medium (e.g., download link) within a reasonable timeframe, not exceeding 30 days.

4. AI MODEL LICENSES

In addition to traditional open source software, the Services provide access to AI models governed by specialized license frameworks, including:

  • Open-weight model licenses: RAIL, OpenRAIL, Llama Community License, Mistral Research License, and similar community-developed model licenses that may impose use restrictions, attribution requirements, and distribution limitations.
  • Creative Commons licenses: Certain model weights and datasets are licensed under CC BY, CC BY-NC, CC BY-SA, or similar variants that may restrict commercial use or require share-alike distribution.
  • Proprietary model terms: Models accessed via API from providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI, and Google are subject to those providers' commercial terms, usage policies, and content restrictions.

You are responsible for reviewing and complying with the license terms applicable to any model you access through the Services. License information for specific models is published in our Documentation and in model-specific notices within the Services interface. Our Notices and License Information provides additional detail.

5. OPEN SOURCE CONTRIBUTIONS BY FRONTAL

Frontal contributes to the open source community. Our public open source projects are maintained at:

https://github.com/frontal-labs

These projects are released under open source licenses as specified in each repository. Contributions to Frontal's open source projects are governed by the contribution guidelines and license terms in each repository.

6. MODIFICATIONS TO OPEN SOURCE COMPONENTS

Frontal may modify certain open source components for use in the Services. Modifications are made available as required by the applicable open source license. If a license requires that modifications be made available, we publish them in our public repositories or make them available upon request.

7. OPEN SOURCE IN CUSTOMER APPLICATIONS

7.1 Frontal's SDKs, client libraries, and API specifications are intended to facilitate your development of applications that use the Services. The SDKs and client libraries are distributed under their own license terms, typically MIT or Apache 2.0, as specified in their respective repositories.

7.2 You are responsible for complying with the license terms of any open source software you use in connection with your applications, including any software you deploy on or integrate with the Services.

7.3 Frontal's Services do not impose additional license obligations on your Customer Data or applications by virtue of being processed through the Services, beyond those set forth in the Terms of Service.

8. NO COMBINED WORKS

Frontal uses open source software, including components licensed under the GPL, LGPL, and MPL, in compliance with those licenses. This includes separate-process, network-communication, or server-side architectures where required. Unless you combine Frontal's proprietary software with open source components in a manner that triggers copyleft obligations under the applicable open source license, your use of the Services does not subject your proprietary software to open source license obligations.
