MCP servers
Configure external Model Context Protocol servers for the Codex CLI.
Codex can act as an MCP client. Configure servers in ~/.codex/config.toml, or manage them with the CLI:
For a local process, use command and args. For a remote server, use url; authentication can use bearer_token_env_var. Server-specific environment variables belong under [mcp_servers.<name>.env].
Use codex mcp get <name> to inspect the effective configuration. Codex discovers the server's tools and makes them available to the agent; review permissions and tokens before enabling write-capable tools.
