Items

Understand the structured items returned by Codex turns.

Every completed Codex turn contains items. Items are discriminated by type, so applications can render or persist each kind without parsing prose.

Type	Meaning
`agent_message`	The agent's natural-language or structured response.
`reasoning`	A reasoning summary emitted by the agent.
`command_execution`	A command, aggregated output, status, and optional exit code.
`file_change`	Added, updated, or deleted paths and patch status.
`mcp_tool_call`	An external MCP server call and its result or error.
`web_search`	A web search request.
`todo_list`	The current task list and completion state.
`error`	A non-fatal error surfaced during the turn.

Use the SDK's exported types or the MCP protocol schemas rather than assuming every item has the same fields. See src/items.ts in the repository for the current TypeScript definitions.
