Build an agent

From a blank brief to an agent you would let a colleague use.

Start with one question

Pick a single question the agent must answer well. An agent that answers one question reliably is worth more than one that answers ten unpredictably.

Write the brief

Give it the narrowest scope that works

Scope the agent to the entity types the question needs. Everything else is noise that costs money and invites mistakes.

Run it against real cases

Collect ten questions you already know the answer to. Run all ten. Read every trace.

Add write tools last

Once the read only traces are boring, add the tool that acts, with an approval step in front of it the first week.
